The habitable volume of the International Space Station, as of May 2002, is 425 cubic meters (15,000 cubic feet), which is roughly equivalent to the interior space of a 167-square-meter (1,800-square-foot) house. The most recent addition to the habitable volume is the Russian Docking Compartment, Pirs, which became part of the station on September 16, 2001.
