S69-39557 (20 July 1969) --- Astronauts Neil A. Armstrong (on left), commander; and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot, are seen standing by the Lunar Module ladder in this black and white reproduction taken from a telecast by the Apollo 11 lunar surface television camera during the Apollo 11 extravehicular activity. Astronaut Michael Collins, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Module in lunar orbit while Armstrong and Aldrin explored the moon. Armstrong became the first man to set foot on another celestial body.
