Apollo Imagery
Lunar Surface Gravimeter
high res (1.2 M) low res (58 K)
S72-37253 (November 1972) --- The Lunar Surface Gravimeter, Experiment S-207, one of the experiments of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package which will be carried on the Apollo 17 lunar landing mission. The major goal of the LSG is to confirm the existence of gravity waver as predicted by Einstein's general theory of relativity. Additional insights into the moon's internal structure are expected to come from the measurement of the tidal deformation in the lunar material caused by Earth and sun--much as Earth's ocean tides are caused by the changing Earth-moon-sun alignment.
