JSC2007-E-22727 (7 May 2007) --- NEEMO 12 crewmembers survey the exterior before entering their undersea habitat as they begin the 12th NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO) mission. The crewmembers are astronaut/aquanauts Heidemarie M. Stefanyshyn-Piper (commander) and Jose M. Hernandez; Dr. Timothy J. Broderick of the University of Cincinnati; and NASA flight surgeon Josef F. Schmid. The crew is spending 12 days, May 7-18, on an undersea mission aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Aquarius Underwater Laboratory, which is operated by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and located off the coast of Key Largo, Florida.
