JSC2002-E-23106 (5 June 2002) --- J. Milton (Milt) Heflin (standing), chief of the Flight Director’s Office, along with Dan Carpenter (background), director of the Public Affairs Office, and Rob Navias, lead STS-111 PAO commentator, discuss pre-launch data in the shuttle flight control room (WFCR) in Houston’s Mission Control Center (MCC). At the time this photo was taken the Space Shuttle Endeavour was about to launch at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida. Endeavour launched at 5:23 p.m. (EDT) on June 5, 2002. Once the vehicle cleared the tower in Florida, the Houston-based team of flight controllers took over the ground control of the flight.
