Steve Stich (center) had been ascent flight director almost two weeks earlier when the Discovery successfully launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Flight controllers and astronauts were now assured of a landing at the same site. Weather had earlier led to waving off the landing of Discovery at the ultimately-targeted, most frequently-used Florida site and another in California.
