STS-117 Shuttle Mission Imagery
Close-up look at the forward portion of the external tank
high res (2.2 M) low res (65 K)
S117-E-05063 (8 June 2007) --- This image, photographed with a digital camera mounted inside space shuttle Atlantis' umbilical well, provides a close-up look at the forward portion of the external tank as the tank was falling away from the shuttle. Clearly visible are foam impact areas damaged during a hail storm on Feb. 26 when the shuttle was on Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. The image shows the repaired damage sites performed without problem during launch on June 8.
