JSC2006-E-18121 (May 2006) --- Computer-generated artist’s rendering of the Space Shuttle Discovery docked to the International Space Station. This angle shows the “P1 push position” of the shuttle robotic system which allows the astronaut to touch the station’s port 1 truss segment. It is part of a test of the 50-foot robotic arm boom extension, usually used for remote shuttle Thermal Protection System (TPS) inspections, as a potential work platform for hard-to-reach repair sites on the bottom of the orbiter for Detailed Test Objective (DTO) 849. The test is scheduled to be conducted during the first spacewalk of STS-121.
