S96-10826 (26 March 1996) --- Afloat in a small life raft, astronaut Thomas D. Akers tosses excess water overboard during bailout training at the Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Weightless Environment Training Facility (WET-F). The mission specialist was joined in this exercise by astronaut Carl E. Walz, mission specialist, with the other crew members repeating the training session earlier in the week. The exercises included a simulated drop from the Space Shuttle using its long escape pole, deployment of the raft and signaling of rescue help.
