JSC2009-E-224715 (22 Oct. 2009) --- Joan Kerwin, director of The Ninety-Nines, joins astronaut Shannon Walker as the two display a special item to onlookers in an Ellington Field hangar on Oct. 22. Flying alongside Walker when she launches from Kazakhstan next year to serve aboard the International Space Station will be this watch which belonged to Amelia Earhart, the legendary aviator who was the first woman to fly as a passenger across the Atlantic Ocean. Earhart later became the first woman to pilot a plane across that same ocean in a solo flight. Photo credit: NASA
