JSC2003-E-46485 (1 July 2003) --- From the left, International Space Station Program Deputy Manager Charles J. Precourt; ISS Program Manager William Gerstenmaier, and JSC Director Gen. Jefferson Davis Howell Jr., help celebrate the birthday of astronaut Edward T. Lu, who could be no closer than 238 statute miles (straight up) during any point during the day and usually thousands of miles away as he orbits Earth aboard the International Space Station. Lu, who calls Hawaii home, got the surprise of his life when NASA employees at the various field centers helped him celebrate his special day by sporting tropical attire on the job.
