JSC2002-E-51839 (12 December 2002) --- Astronaut Leroy Chiao, backup Expedition Eight mission commander, participates in Minus Eighty-degree Laboratory Freezer for ISS (MELFI) training in the Jake Garn Simulation and Training Facility at the Johnson Space Center (JSC). MELFI will provide the International Space Station (ISS) with a low temperature freezer facility and nominal operating temperatures of –80, -26 and +4 degrees Celsius that will preserve experiment materials over long periods.
