JSC2000-E-18562 (11 July 2000) --- Mark Ferring, an ISS flight director, awaits the rapidly approaching launch of the Zvezda Service Module aboard a Russian Proton rocket at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. Ferring and several other flight controllers were on duty in the Johnson Space Center's Mission Control Center (MCC) during the launch operations. Following the Service Module's mating to the orbiting station in about two weeks, a crew of astronauts and cosmonauts will visit ISS in September of this year.
