The Vision For Space Exploration : TECHNOLOGY Imagery

JSC2006-E-16505 (October 2004) --- No, it’s not an alien eyeball. It’s a peek inside an iceberg. Refractive light makes the ice deep inside this hole in an iceberg appear blue. The 6-foot deep hole was made by a low-powered, lightweight drill being field tested by NASA engineers. Engineers hope a similar drill will one day bore into other planets using just a light-bulb’s worth of power.
