 Space Shuttle Atlantis lifts off from the Kennedy Space Center, Fla., at the beginning of STS-110, the 13th International Space Station assembly mission. Atlantis carries the first segment of the station's backbone -- the S0 (S-Zero) Truss -- and a crew of seven astronauts. The shuttle launched on April 8, 2002 at 3:44 p.m. CDT (2044 GMT).
