On
the 15th anniversary of the Challenger accident:
That we are
able to mark this in flight, in space -- is a most fitting tribute
to the memories of our fallen crewmates and friends…Today we are
working and living in space -- a new era, a new enterprise -- the
permanent presence of humans away from planet Earth…
Our need to
explore and to fulfill the human potential defines us. Space is
austere, harsh, unforgiving -- but as logical a place for us to
be as any path that man ever walked. It is "high ground" for the
human experience. Let the name "Challenger" give us pause to reflect
on, and purpose to continue--our voyage of exploration and discovery.
