Incubator - Integrated Quail Experiments on Mir

Quail Eggs Packaged in 4% Paraformaldehyde

The quail eggs were packaged in a 4% paraformaldehyde solution after 7, 10, 13 and 16 days of incubation on Mir for postflight analysis on Earth. Investigators studied the effects of microgravity on avian development, specifically development of the visuo-vestibular system, bone formation and mineralization, blood vessel formation, respiratory function and sexual development.
